It’s Murphy’s makeup law - no matter how much we try to plan ahead, it seems like last-minute beauty emergencies
always spring up during the holiday season. Luckily, we here at MDC have experienced our fair share of
makeup mishaps and have learned from our mistakes. Not one to keep secrets, today we’re sharing our solutions for four of the most-common holiday beauty emergencies. You can thank us with a hot mug of spiced cider…
Emergency #1: You take off your hat…and realize your hair is completely flat
By now, everyone has experienced the horror of hat hair. On days when it’s simply too cold to do without (or if your hat happens to be the finishing touch on your carefully-chosen holiday outfit), know this: there is a cure. Your savior? Volumizing dry shampoo. Bring a mini version like Batiste Travel Size Dry Shampoo and put it in your bag – if there’s room, stow a small fine-toothed comb in there as well. After you arrive, give yourself a few spritzes and tease your roots with the comb for instantly-revived locks.
Emergency #2: You’ve arrived at the party…and realize you forgot to put on deodorant
As much as we would all like to imagine we always smell like roses and Chanel No. 5, the truth is that that most women count deodorant as a close friend and companion. So we can only imagine the terror you might feel upon removing your jacket and realizing you forgot to give your underarms some freshening before leaving the house. Before you sweat yourself into a panic-induced frenzy, try this trick: grab your hand sanitizer and give your underarms a quick swipe in the bathroom. The alcohol will kill odor-causing bacteria and help you feel fresh in a pinch.
Emergency #3: You’ve created a festive masterpiece on your nails…and have to be out of the door in 5 minutes
If you find yourself with no time to allow your painstakingly created sparkly manicure to dry, use this trick: place your fingers in a bowl of ice-cold water for a few minutes. The cold temperature will harden your nail polish and help it dry more quickly, giving you more time to focus on perfecting your lipstick before dashing out the door.
Emergency #4: You’ve picked the perfect holiday party dress…but static is causing it to cling to you EVERYWHERE
This might not be a makeup trick, but it does involve a beauty product most women swear they can’t live without: hairspray. The cold weather means more of you will be donning tights under your party dresses – great news for keeping your legs toasty, but a nightmare when it comes to static cling. To prevent this annoyance, just give a small spritz of hairspray in any areas that are prone to bunching. Feel free to dance the night away afterwards.
