Flank Steak Tacos

Flank Steak TacosPosted by Sonia Mendez GarciaView Blog Yields 4 servings
For Flank Steak:
2 pounds flank steak (1 inch thick)
6 cloves of garlic
1 jalapeƱo pepper
1 tablespoon Mexican oregano
2 teaspoons cumin seeds
2 tablespoons peppercorns
4 chiles de arbol
1 tablespoon chile ancho powder or any mild chile powder
5 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/3 cup olive oil
For Tomatillo Chipotle Salsa:
8 to 10 tomatillos
2 chipotle peppers in adobo
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
Juice of 1 small lime
You Will Also Need:
1/3 cup white onion, diced
1/3 cup cilantro, chopped
Lime wedges
Corn or flour tortillas, warmed on a comal (Mexican griddle) or on a large skillet on stove top.

1. To make the marinade, with a mortar and pestle, I ground up each item, with the tiniest pinch of salt, and then combine with the vinegar, oil, and about 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk it all together, taste for salt. This marinade was enough for a 2-pound cut of flank steak. Marinated it for at least 3 hours, turning…

How To Make 5 Cleansing & Rejuvenating Detox Baths

Did you know that the skin is sometimes called the third kidney, due to the role it plays in detoxing the body? Some people are lucky to be living close to an inexpensive herbal steam room like in Scandinavia, so they get their dose of healthy sweating as often as they desire. Heat combined with the smell of fresh herbs is a very relaxing, yet rejuvenating experience. By sweating, you help the skin – your largest organ – get rid of the toxins and dietary and metabolic acids. Not everyone lives next to a steam room, so here are some of my favorite detox bath recipes. Your deep body cleansing can start in the comfort of your own bathroom. Dim light, candles and meditative music will add to the positive experience – detoxing and de-stressing at the same time.
Ginger Detox Bath Ginger has been revered for centuries as an immune system booster. It’s a strong antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral and even anti-cancerous substance. I have a friend who swears by drinking nothing but ginger th…

5 Exercise to Swap by DailyHIIT

Here are some alternatives to 5 basic exercises that can make your workouts safer and more effective. 1. Stiff-Legged Deadlift
While this is a great move for building hamstring and lower back strength, the position of the knees in this move — having your legs fully locked out — can put undue stress on the back and cut off circulation between the heart and the legs. As a result the force you create diminishes with each rep, meaning less efficient work and minimal results. Swap It With: Romanian Deadlift
Keeping the knees soft in the Romanian Deadlift, or RDL, takes pressure off the back and actually promotes good circulation between the heart and the legs, meaning you’re able to maximize force production for each rep of the exercise. And more force means more strength, which results in more muscle. 2.  Behind-the-Neck Seated Military Press
While this exercise might appear to be an effective shoulder developer, it has two prominent flaws. First, it puts your shoulders in a vulnerable pos…

The Do's & Dont's of Dark Lipstick

The time has come for bold and bright to give way to the deep, dark lip colors of fall/winter. Much like red lipstick, women often think they can’t wear a richly pigmented lip, but as long as you know what you’re doing dark lipstick can look remarkably chic. The far from color shy makeup artist Elyse Reneau is here with the guidance and inspiration you need to embrace the darker side of beauty. Without further ado, here are MDC’s do’s and don’ts of dark lipstick… DO prep your lips properly by exfoliating and moisturizing before application. This make the color go on smoother and last longer. DON’T apply dark lipstick on dry, chapped lips. The color will crack and flake off–not a good look. DO line your lips with a lip pencil similar in color to your lipstick first. This allows you to establish the boundaries of your lip and the pencil helps hold the color in place. DON’T apply it straight from lipstick bullet. Instead, use a lip brush to give you control over the application and inte…
