15 Natural Ways To Maintain Beautiful,Youthful Skin

15 Natural Ways To Maintain Beautiful, Youthful Skin
By Kristy Rao There may not be a fountain of youth, but the food we eat and how we treat ourselves can prevent or even reverse aging. Your body needs the right nutrients to fight off damage, and your skin is no different. Nutrients help the cells replicate and have more energy. Processed foods, stress, toxins and low-nutrient diets will accelerate aging. Protecting yourself from harmful chemicals while getting enough sleep, relaxation and exercise will all help you maintain a healthy glow.
1. Drink plenty of water.
Even with a small amount of dehydration, your body functions in a less optimal way. The instant you're dehydrated, it will take a toll on your skin, causing it to look dull, flaky, saggy and loose.
2. Eat foods with antioxidants.
Antioxidants are the best resources your body has to fight disease and aging by reducing damage and inflammation. Inflammation is a leading cause of wrinkle formation. Some of the…

Coconut Oil=Glowing Skin

Glowing SkinExtra virgin coconut oil happens to be very rich in antioxidants that prevent free radical formation (free radicals cause skin to lose elasticity). It’s antibacterial and antifungal, too, which is beneficial for maintaining clear skin. And because it’s molecular structure is relatively small, these benefits penetrate deep into underlying tissues that most moisturizers can’t reach. Of course, it smells really good too!

All healthy fats aid in hormone function, but coconut oil is special. Bob the liverreaaaaally likes coconut oil because – well, because Bob gets to sit back and do NOTHING! You see, coconut oil contains rare medium chain fatty acids (MCFT’s) that break down almost immediately when they come in contact with saliva and gastric juices. So rather than convert to lipoproteins (fat & protein), coconut oil converts directly into energy. So we have a fat that isn’t stored as fat in our bodies, moisturizes from within, and gives Bob a break so he can focus …

Turmeric for Brighter Skin

Indian-Inspired Recipe for Brighter Skin by Green Beauty Team

India is a country with a distinct beauty. The cinema known as Bollywood shows radiant colors, and beautiful women adorned with jewels, mendhi patterns, and black smoky eyes.
Grooming practices in India are very traditional. Indians believe that a healthy diet, oiling the body, and avoiding the use of chemicals are the best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. That’s why in India many oils, plants, and herbs substitute the consumer goods used in the West.
India has a connection to the feminine power represented by the Devi (goddesses) in the Hindu religion that showcases natural beauty, and untouched skin. During my visit in 2012, I discovered that in this place called India, life lives in everything. Drop a seed and it will grow overnight.
What does it mean to be beautiful in India? Both the elder and modern Indian woman embraces her beauty.
It’s always about what’s in the inside, the intention, the truth behind the …

6 Unexpected Benefits of Eating a Plant-Based Diet

6 Unexpected Benefits Of Eating A Plant-Based Diet
By Michelle Alcon Five short years ago, my journey toward a healthier lifestyle began as a quest to improve my family’s digestion issues. During that time, I began to ask many questions, research endlessly, and teach myself how to cook.
I couldn’t deny the evidence suggesting that a plant-based diet might get me where I wanted to go: optimal energy, weight loss and disease prevention. In fact, I learned that many of our chronic ailments and diseases today can be avoided by diet and lifestyle changes.
Ultimately, my family’s health was restored with some simple diet changes.
But there was a larger shift happening. Eating higher quality food was not only bringing about a healthier version of myself but also a more confident, truer ME.
My switch to a plant-based diet was the result of my research on prevention, but I've learned (and experienced) along the way that there are many other benefits of eating this way. Here are six type…

What You Need To Know About Natural Beauty Products

What You Need To Know About Natural Beauty Products by Wendy Rodewald

What’s really in your face cream?

If you’re looking to green your beauty routine, it can be hard to know where to start. Natural, organic, vegan, paraben-free: companies slap all kind of buzzwords on their packaging, but the truth is not all “eco-friendly” beauty products live up to their marketing. Even more frustrating, lots of them don’t really work.
But greener cosmetics are worth seeking out. On average, women use 12 personal care products containing 168 different ingredients every day, according to a 2004 survey by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), an industry watchdog organization—that’s a lot of different chemical compounds being absorbed by our bodies. And in the US, the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t test every ingredient that goes into beauty products. The agency also doesn’t regulate the word “natural” on product labels, which means any product can say it’s natur…

Health Benefits of Lipoic Acid

Exploring the Health Benefits of Lipoic Acid
By Michael A. Smith, MD Since the 1980s, Life Extension has been educating people on the benefits of eating a wide variety of antioxidants from a wide variety of sources. Unfortunately, because of the poor conditions of our soil, many of our favorite fruits and vegetables simply do not carry the same nutritional punch that they did a few decades ago.

What does this mean to you? First and foremost, it means that you need to supplement daily with a variety of antioxidants. One of the most important for your health is lipoic acid, and below we’ll take an in-depth look at this very unique antioxidant.

What Makes Lipoic Acid So Unique? Widely known as a potent and effective antioxidant, lipoic acid demonstrates a multitude of health benefits directly related to its chemical structure. While most antioxidants are either water-loving or fat-loving, lipoic acid is actually both.

Unlike vitamins C and E, which are confined to water and f…

DIY Apple Vinegar

How To: Make Apple Vinegar From Scratch When you go out and pick two bushels of apples you better have a plan for using them up — especially in a timely manner!

Lets recap: first we shared our homemade natural dog treat recipe, then we showed you our process in making fruit leather; both of which made for a lot of leftover apple peels and cores, so we decided to try our hand at making our own apple vinegar.

This all came about while gathering inspiration over on A Sonoma Garden for making our own natural fruit roll-ups — we stumbled across this additional how-to on how to make your own apple vinegar using 3 basic ingredients and a dash of patience, ha. We followed this tutorial word for word and are now well into the process of making our very own apple vinegar. The steps were really quite simple and again, this is a recipe that requires little to no measuring — the amount of apples used really isn't im…
