Nude palettes continue to be popular, but truth be told, I’m getting a little bored with all that tasteful naturalness. Instead, perk up your look for Spring by adding a little golden gleam to your eyes, lips, cheeks, and nails:
For a subtle accent, try Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Bronzer, which does triple duty as a bronzer, highlighter, and eye shadow. Use a large powder brush to sweep onto the top of your cheekbones and collarbones to catch the light. Or, try one of my favorite tricks: use your fourth finger to dab a bit of the lightest strip onto your browbone under your eyebrows. This instantly updates your usual shadow ($12-13 at Target and drugstores).
For a bold eye, try gold eyeliner. For day, draw a thin line of gold liner right above black liquid liner. For night, draw a thicker gold line and play with using it on the lower lid as well (especially pretty on the inner half of the lower lid). Don’t go too thick or you’ll look like Cleopatra. Try NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Gold (about $4.50 at drugstores) or Napoleon Perdis China Doll Gel Eyeliner in Double Happiness ($25 at neimanmarcus.com).
For edgy glam, copy one of my (male) rock star patient’s style and go all out glittery on your nails with Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Boom Boom Pow ($20 at Sephora), or Essie Encrusted Treasures Nail Polish in Hors D’oeuvres ($8.50 at drugstores). An unexpectedly sexy way to accessorize a LBD. (Or try it on your toes to show off strappy sandals.)
Want to win an Essie polish in Hors D’oeuvres? Send an email to feedback@drjessicawu.com with “Essie Giveaway” in the subject line. I’ll pick five lucky winners at random. Good luck!
