Skin Glow Juice Recipe
The ingredients for this week’s juice are: 2 cucumbers, 3 carrots, 1 lemon, 2 avocados, and kale.
Cucumbers contain Silica. Silica is great for the health of skin, hair and nails because silica stimulates the production of collagen. Putting cucumber slices on your eyes is great for reducing puffy eyes and skin irritations or sunburns. This is again due to the silica, vitamins, and antioxidants that are found in cucumbers.
High in antioxidants like beta-carotene carrot juice holds nutritional and healing benefits, especially for cancer patients. Compounds like poly-acetylene and falcarinol have been shown to decrease tumor size and destroy precancerous cells. Research conducted at the University of Newcastle has shown that falcarinol can help to neutralize free radicals and precancerous cells.
Lemon is one of the few foods that contain more negative charged ions, providing your body with more energy when it enters the digestive tract. The scent of lemon also has mood enhancing and energizing properties. The smell of lemon juice can brighten your mood and help clear your mind. Lemon can also help reduce anxiety and depression.
Avocados are the fruit with the highest level of Vitamin E (yes avocados are a fruit!) Vitamin E is an essential vitamin and helps to maintain overall health. Vitamin E also has positive effects on heart disease, stroke, cancer prevention, and development of cataracts and is widely claimed to have anti-aging properties.
Kale contains Beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is an antioxidant which helps to build the body’s immune system. An antioxidant helps neutralize free radicals and helps prevent molecules from oxidizing. One cup of cooked kale has about 5.8 mg of beta-carotene (Barone et. al, 2002). Beat-carotene is also important because it’s a precursor for the production of vitamin A. When we get adequate amounts of vitamin A, we have healthier skin, a stronger immune system, and it helps with vision as well.
