Cleaning with Baking Soda

That small yellow box in your fridge is more powerful than you might think: It's treated sick bodies and cleaned homes since the time of the Trojans. Even after all these years, it's just as effective. Clean your grill? Check. Remove stubborn coffee or tea stains? Check. Spot treat wallpaper, books and porcelain? Check! check! check! If that didn't already baffle you, see what else this super powder can clean:
- Countertops, tiles and other surfaces: Sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth. Wipe and rinse with clean water.
- Burnt food from pots and pans: Soak the pot or pan overnight with a scoop of baking soda in hot water; the burnt food will come off easily.
- Stain removal (from most surfaces): Using baking soda paste (3 parts baking soda, one part water), apply and leave on overnight, then scrub or wipe clean.
- Carpet odors: Sprinkle with baking soda. Let stand for at least fifteen minutes and vacuum.
