Fall Essential Oils

Spice Up This Fall With These Exciting Essential Oil Ideas

Make This Fall The Best Ever With These Exciting Essential Oil Ideas
September is in full swing. The nights are drawing in, the mornings are crisp and the leaves will soon be changing colour and falling. I love Fall. I love warm hearty food, I love wrapping up warm and snuggling up on the sofa, and I absolutely love the spicy and woody scents of Fall essential oils, such as nutmeg, pine and cypress oil. Essential oils really can be used to make Fall an even more magical time of year and in this blog post I’ll reveal how.

Make Your Home Smell Like Fall

You can create a fantastic Fall ambience in your home using certain essential oils. If you are lucky enough to have a log fire, then add a drop of either pine, cypress, sandalwood or cedarwood essential oil onto each log before you throw it onto the flames. Your home will be transformed into a Fall smelling forest as the scent diffuses through each room. Make Your Home Smell Like Fall If you don’t have a log fire, then you can purchase an essential oil diffuser, such as this one, simply add your essential oils and let it disperse the scents around your room. Making your own essential oil candles is another great way to put the scent of Fall into your home. If you know how to make candles then you simply need to add 30-60 drops of essential oil of your choice to each eight ounces of candle wax used. Making your own candles is fun and it’s great to create your own scents, so if you’d like to learn how then get yourself a copy of The Candlemaker’s Companion on Amazon. If you don’t know how to make your own candles then here is a little trick you can use. Light a regular candle and allow to burn for a few minutes until a pool of melted wax forms. Then simply add three drops of Fall essential oils of your choice. Here are some oils you might like to try: Allspice, bay, black pepper, cardamom, cedarwood, cinnamon, clove, cumin, frankincense, ginger, myrhh, nutmeg, pine, sage, sandalwood and vanilla. All of these oils can be purchased on the Essential Oils page at Mountain Rose Herbs. Simply click that link and scroll down to see all the essential oils on offer.

Keep Cold & Flu At Bay

Keep Cold & Flu At Bay One of the main downsides of Fall is the inevitable cold and flu that arrives as the temperatures fall. Luckily, essential oils can be used to prevent – or treat – cold and flu should it strike us down. One way to prevent cold and flu is by burning an essential oil in an aroma lamp, such as this one. An aroma lamp consists of a tea light which warms a bowl of water above it. Add an essential oil to the water and inhale the mist to kill germs and bacteria in your nasal cavity. Essential oils that are particularly good for this are eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary. If the flu germs have invaded and you are experiencing a sore throat, then gargle with a mixture of one drop essential oil and water. Tea tree oil, eucalyptus and ginger are particularly effective. Finally, if the flu is in full swing and you are experiencing fever, then bathe in a warm bath with a few drops of essential oil, especially chamomile, black pepper, ginger, peppermint or lemon essential oil.

Essential Oils For Halloween

One of the best parts of Fall are the Halloween celebrations – and essential oils can be used to make October 31st even better. Here are a couple of ideas from my favorite book about essential oils, The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy. Get yourself some charcoal (such as this incense charcoal on Mountain Rose Herbs), place it in a heat resistant dish and light it. When it starts to burn add two or three drops of patchouli or cedarwood oil onto it. Aromatic smoke will billow out providing a fantastic show for the little ones. Finally, another cool Halloween idea is to tie twigs into bundles, soak them in a strong woody fragrance, such as pine or cypress, diluted in water. These make fragrant witches brooms which make great gifts or can be used by the kids as part of their costumes.

Hearty Fall Soups With Essential Oils

soup Hearty, warm and comforting soups are a staple of a Fall diet. Did you know that some essential oils can be used in food? There is a lot of conflicting information, but this recipe is taken from Valerie Ann Worwood – who is one of the world’s most trusted authorities on essential oils having authored The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy. Mandarin and Carrot Soup Recipe - 1 pound carrots, grated
- 1 large potato, grated
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 ounce butter
- 2 ½ cups vegetable stock
- salt and pepper
- 4 drops mandarin essential oil Melt the butter over a low heat, add the veg and seasonings and gently heat for ten minutes covered. Add the stock and bring to the boil. Add the mandarin essential oil, reduce to a simmer for ten minutes, sieve and return to heat. Serve when thoroughly hot.
