If you live in London and have skin (as well as a couple extra pence rattling around in your pocket), you endeavor to lock in an appointment with Facialist to the Well-Heeled, Debbie Thomas.

Since we live several thousand miles from London and don't have even a single pence, our skin is stoked that Thomas has made public her tips on how to get a truly clean, makeup-free face.

Talking to the Telegraph, Thomas makes clear that she's a staunch proponent of a two-step skin cleansing process.

"Our skin is an organ that breathes, feeds and grows," she reminds us. "A double-cleansing every evening will ensure it is as clean and healthy as possible."

The first phase is to "eliminate makeup and daily grime" (Thomas recommends wiping your entire face with an oil-based makeup remover-soaked cotton pad. Oil-based is key; the oil works to break down the makeup.)

The second step cleans the complexion. Thomas advocates using a non-oily face wash -- suited to your skin type -- that washes off easily with tepid water. (Too hot or too cold water can cause broken blood vessels!)

Some pro tips:

•"To lift off waterproof mascara, hold a remover-soaked cotton disc on the eye for 10 seconds before gently wiping the area. Repeat until the disc is clean. Be careful not to be too rough as repeatedly overstretching the skin around the eyes can lead to crêping and fine lines."

•"Face wipes should only be used in emergencies as they rub dirt around the face and leave a significant amount of make-up on the skin."
