This Lipstick Looks Good on Everyone

If you’re an awards show junkie (like we are), you’ve probably noticed one lipstick shade making an appearance more than others: rose. Emma Stone has been wearing the color almost exclusively, and we cannot get enough of this soft and pretty hue. Rose lipstick is natural looking, yet adds enough color to really emphasize the lips. And best of all, it works on all skin tones.
“Rose is a flattering color because it gives the appearance of just bitten lips,” says Jessica Scantlin, Blushington’s resident celebrity makeup artist. “[Plus] everyone has the color rose within their own lip tone to start with.”

 However, one color doesn’t fit all. Different variations work on different tones. “When searching for the perfect rose shade, look for a color that is one to two shades deeper than your natural lip tone. For lighter skin tones, and if you have a more pink lip, you can go a shade darker and it will enhance your natural lip color.” However, you should avoid anything lighter than your natural lip color. This tends to wash out the complexion (which of course we want to avoid).
Scantlin offers her picks for each skin tone below:
Fair: Scantlin loves Jouer Hydrating Lipstick in Meredith ($24, jouercosmetics.com). It instantly brightens fair skin.
Medium: “Julie Hewett has a flattering range of rose colored lipsticks including Biba ($22, juliehewett.net), which is a soft rose more suited for fair to medium skin tones.”
Dark: “Becca has a beautiful lip stain—Becca Beach Tint in Watermelon ($25, beccacosmetics.com) that is more of a rose/berry undertone. This is beautiful on darker skin.” She also recommends Julie Hewett Kiki ($22, juliehewett.net), a mauve rose.
“With all of the shades I mentioned above, you can use them to complement the rest of your makeup by adding a dab of them on the apples of your cheeks. It gives a slightly flushed, English Rose appearance.” Our winter just got a lot brighter
