Benefits with Thyme

Benefits Of ThymeThyme, or common thyme, is one of the best known medicinal herbs with a variety of healing powers and medicinal applications, which has been used around the world for many centuries. Thyme has a very pleasant refreshing fragrance and is a very easy-to-grow herb. This is one of the most popular herbal remedies which is used in our kitchens as a spice for the dishes with all sorts of meat (especially lamb, beef, etc.), as well as for vegetable soups, stews, or sauces. Thyme is a highly valued medicinal herb, and numerous health benefits of thyme have been studied for the last several decades in many countries of the world. According to the latest findings of a group of scientists at Leeds Metropolitan University, thyme can be an effective and great natural remedy for skin care and combating such a common problem as acne.
Thyme has been known as one of the best natural antibiotics for skin infections. Besides, as the latest findings suggest, using thyme for acne treatment can be more effective than using known creams and lotions. The scientists say that this natural remedy can be especially recommended to those people who suffer from acne and other skin infections, and have high skin sensitivity, so they can not use common anti-inflammatory creams and cosmetic products.Thyme For Skin Care The findings of the expert group was presented by Dr Margarita Gomez-Escalada, a study leader and a professor at Leeds Metropolitan University, earlier this month at the Society for General Microbiology’s Spring Conference in Dublin, Ireland.
During the experiment, the scientists tested the effects of several natural remedies including thyme, pot marigold and myrrh tinctures on human skin affected with Propionibacterium acnes, cause by infecting ski pores of the patients. The effects of the three tinctures on the acne infections were measured against an alcohol control. In other words, the experts tried to analyze pure antibacterial actions of these tinctures and exclude the sterilizing effects of alcohol in the tinctures. The results of the experiments have demonstrated that by using any of the three tinctures can assist in killing the bacteria within only 5 minutes, but thyme tincture proved to be the most effective natural remedy among the three ones that were tested.
“While thyme, marigold and myrrh are common herbal alternatives to standard antibacterial skin washes, this is the first study to demonstrate the effect they have on the bacterium that causes the infection leading to acne,” Dr. Gomez-Escalada underlined. The scientists also compared the effects and benefits of thyme tincture and benzoyl peroxide (in standard concentrations), which is the most common ingredient of most anti-acne creams. It turned out that thyme can work the same, and sometimes even more effective than benzoyl peroxide. Therefore, the scientists hope that the discovered benefits of thyme for skin care will open a way for creating a new herbal treatment for acne and skin infections which can be an alternative for common anti-acne creams and work well for people with sensitive skin.
