ANTI-AGING LOTION BARS

You will need to order the little push-up tubes – I found mine at Bramble Berry Soap Making Supplies – you’ll find the rest of the ingredients at Mountain Rose Herbs. I used Macadamia Nut Oil because it is so rich and anti-aging, but if you want to use something a little less expensive, you can substitute with grape seed or sweet almond oil.
I also used Frankincense essential oil, and I don’t want you to substitute this, because it’s a potent anti-aging component of the formulation. I scented the bar with Ylang Ylang essential oil because I think it pairs beautifully with the Frankincense and leaves a pretty floral scent.
Makes 5 bars
1 ounce beeswax pellets
4 ounces Macadamia nut oil
21/2 ounces Shea Butter
1 1/2 ounce cocoa butter
1tsp Sea Buckthorn Oil
20 drops Frankincense essential oil
15 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
Place all the ingredients except for the Sea Buckthorn oil and the essential oils, in a small steel or glass bowl and place over a saucepan of boiling water (use a Bain Marie if you have one).
Turn down the heat to medium and melt the oils while stirring with the end of a wooden spoon or a popsicle stick.
As soon as the oils and butters have melted, remove the bowl from the heat and quickly add the Sea Buckthorn oil and the essential oils. Pour the mixture into a pouring jug and fill the push-up tubes – you have to work quickly here because the waxes and butters will start to set pretty quickly.
Leave the tubes to cool. They will set within a couple of hours.
Stored in a cool, dark cabinet, they have a shelf life of about 6 months.
Tip: As soon as you are done pouring, use paper towel (and make sure it’s recycled!!!) to wipe out the bowl and the pouring jug – get as much off as you can because it’ll make them much easier to wash. Then hand wash with very hot water and dish soap. Don’t put them in the dishwasher because the wax residue will get baked on.
