How To Cover Up a Bad Sunburn

How Experts Cover Up a Bad Sunburn

how to hide a sunburn
The first pool day of the season can bring beautiful, sun-soaked bliss. It can also create a problem for skin that has been hibernating under layers of sweaters, scarves and hats for the past four months. Even though we know to apply and re-apply sunscreen every few hours, sometimes that pesky sunburn still gets the best of us. When a lazy day in the sun sends you straight for the aloe vera, we can help nurse your complexion back to perfection. Celebrity makeup artist Melissa Walsh gave us these tips for covering up a bad sunburn.
Care for the skin…
Start by washing your face with a mild cream cleanser, splash with cool water and gently blot dry. To rehydrate the skin and help calm redness, mist your face with a soothing spritz of Dermalogica Ultra Calming Mist or Shu Uemura Depsea Water Facial Mist Chamomile. Then Walsh recommends “applying a green or yellow tinted moisturizer (both counteract redness) such as Murad Redness Therapy Correcting Moisturizer SPF 15, while the skin is still dewy from the mist to lock in much needed moisture.”
Cover the red…
Once your skin is adequately quenched, “using a brush, blend a creamy highly-pigmented foundation over the entire face.” We love Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Foundation or Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Foundation for their gentle formulations. Set it all with a yellow-toned powder. If you still look slightly rosy, a dusting of matte bronzer will help disguise redness, but steer clear of anything shimmery, as it will draw attention to the burn.
We won’t tell anyone you got burnt, but please invest in some new sunscreen! You can always stay gold the safe and sunless way with sunless tanner.
