Taquitos with a Twist Posted by Cindy Kennedy http://www.hispanickitchen.com/profiles/blogs/taquitos-with-a-twist Taquitos 20 rolled corn tortillas 2 cups shredded pork, chicken or beef 20 corn tortillas 1 cup sauce of choice (enchilada, tomatillo) - optional --If preparing meat from scratch, simmer in plain water. You'll be seasoning later, unless it's leftovers. A 1-pound tenderloin, trimmed and cut in half will take about 1 hour at a simmer. --Let the meat cool and shred with a fork. Lightly coat with a blend of chili powder, black pepper, dried oregano, cumin, and salt. (You can find a recipe here .) --Dampen two paper towels and place 3-4 tortillas in at a time. Microwave on high for about 1 minute. It may take more - if they begin to crack, they're not hot enough. --Coat the inside of the tortilla with about 1 teaspoon of the sauce (or just start filling the heated tortilla without a sauce. --Place about 1 heaping teaspoon full of meat ...

17 reasons to use honey and cinnamon by Jimena Fernandez  •  http://positivefoodie.com/17-reasons-to-use-honey-and-cinnamon/ We have mentioned many times the benefits of both honey and cinnamon, which are great alone, but mixing them together increases their power exponentially. People of many cultures have been using honey and cinnamon to treat many different health situations for centuries. Folk wisdom still retains knowledge of the healing properties of both raw honey and cinnamon.           1. ARTHRITIS:  Take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two teaspoons honey and one small teaspoon cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.          2.  BLADDER INFECTIONS:  Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it.  It destroys the germs in the bladder. ...

Hasselback Sweet Potatoes with Crispy Garlic http://www.everydaymaven.com/2013/hasselback-sweet-potatoes-with-crispy-garlic/      Serves 4 By,: Everyday Maven Serves:: 4 Ingredients 4 medium organic sweet potatoes 4 medium cloves garlic, crushed 2 Tablespoons Ghee (see NOTES for butter or coconut oil) 1 teaspoon kosher salt ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 teaspoon paprika Instructions Preheat oven to 425F. Scrub potatoes clean and set aside. Line a baking sheet with tin foil. Combine Ghee, salt, pepper, paprika and garlic in a small dish. I used a garlic press to crush the garlic right into the dish. Stir until well combined. Grab a pair of chopsticks and place one on either side of a potato. Use a knife to cut ¼” slices ⅔ of the way down the potato. The chopsticks will help act as guides and prevent you from slicing the potato all the way. Once the potatoes are sliced, transfer to baking sheet. D...

DIY Lasting Liner by The Beauty Department

Image
OILY EYE LID RESCUE Post + Photography by Amy Nadine, Graphic Design by Eunice Chun You’ve already learned our quick tip for preventing your lower eyeliner from running in The Line Saver post, so this time we’re focusing on the upper lashline. If you have oily eye lids, you’ve probably struggled with your liner stamping itself just above the crease. Even if it’s a waterproof formula… so frustrating! And if you’ve used a non-waterproof formula, forget about it. You might as well draw the crease line yourself because it’s definitely going to end up there anyway! But this trick really works if you do it immediately upon application. Here’s how:  TOOLS: Translucent Powder — One of my all-time favorites is Giorgio Armani Micro-fil Loose Powder in #0 because even though it’s translucent (color-less), it has tiny little shimmering particles that help mask imperfections and it never gets cakey. Eye Shadow Blending Brush — The  Lancôme Blending Shadow Brush ...

Five Tips to Improve Your Digestive Health http://www.pvnutritionaltherapy.com/five-tips-to-improve-your-digestive-health/ By Craig Fear Digestive problems?   Millions of Americans are suffering with poor digestive health these days brought on by not only poor dietary choices but poor dietary advice as well.  The mainstream nutrition advice to eat low-fat, eat more whole grains and eat more fruits and vegetables can actually exacerbate many digestive problems.  Yesterday I made another TV appearance here in western Massachusetts where I discussed five tips to improve your digestive health.  Most of these tips are not tips your doctor is telling you about.  But they’re really important, especially if you’ve been experiencing more chronic, long-term digestive problems.  So sit back and check out my five tips for better digestive health: So did you watch it?  Are those tips something different from what your doctor has...

Train Yourself To Be An Optimist(Yes,You Can!)

Image
Train Yourself To Be An Optimist (Yes, You Can!) By Debra Kaye Are you in a rut of thinking yourself as a failure? I use the word rut on purpose, because feeling like a failure – and behaving like one – is a habit you can change. You can flip it around and teach yourself to be an optimist, to act like a success and be successful.   It’s all about what psychologists call “learned optimism.” You see, happiness is not just a warm and fuzzy feeling. We can all consciously adapt easy practices that will help us develop the optimist’s style and point of view. Doing this will make us more willing to take risks, take failures in our stride, and be more willing to seek help, ask questions, and try again. Martin Seligman, Director of the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania and founder of positive psychology, says people have unique ways of describing what happens to them, which he calls “explanatory st...

DIY Grow Potatoes

Image
Grow 100 lbs. Of Potatoes In 4 Square Feet: {How To} http://tipnut.com/grow-potatoes/ Quite the clever gardening tip here folks! Today’s feature includes tips from three different sources for growing potatoes vertically (in layers) instead of spread out in rows across your garden. If you have limited garden space or want to try some nifty gardening magic, this could be a great option for you. First, there’s this article from The Seattle Times: It’s Not Idaho, But You Still Can Grow Potatoes : The potatoes are planted inside the box, the first row of boards is installed and the dirt or mulch can now be added to cover the seed potatoes. As the plant grows, more boards and dirt will be added. You plant in one bottom layer, boarding up the sides of each layer and adding dirt as you go higher (you wait until the plants have grown a bit before adding a new layer).
