Keto Salisbury Steak

WHAT IS SALISBURY STEAK?

Salisbury steak is basically a fun and seasoned hamburger smothered in gravy. It’s named after James Henry Salisbury (1823-1905) who was a doctor that became famous for his teachings about diet and nutrition. There are a lot of different ways to make it. Some people use just ground beef, and others make it from round steak. My version is made with ground beef and other keto-friendly ingredients.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20-25 minutes
Servings: 4
Net Carbs: 4 net carbs per serving

Ingredients:

For the steaks:

Olive oil
Ground beef
Onion
Pork rind crumbs
Worcestershire sauce
Egg
Garlic
Sugar free ketchup
Dijon mustard
Cajun seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste

For the gravy:

Butter unsalted
Sliced mushrooms
Garlic
Worcestershire sauce
Cajun seasoning
Beef broth
Heavy whipping cream

Instructions:

1. Mix together all of the ingredients for the steaks in a mixing bowl, with the exception of the olive oil. Form into four evenly sized patties.

2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium high heat on the stove.

3. Place the patties in the heated skillet and cook evenly on both sides until cooked through. Set aside and keep warm.

4. Remove the excess fat from the skillet, and add the butter.

5. Place the mushrooms in the skillet and saute until tender.

6. Stir in the garlic, worcestershire sauce and cajun seasoning, sauteing another 30 seconds.

7. Whisk in the heavy whipping cream and beef broth. Cook until the gravy has thickened.

8. Return the salisbury steaks to the skillet, toss to coat in the sauce and serve.
