Licorice Paste for Even, Youthful & Blemish-Free Skin

Whenever licorice is brought up, the first thing that may come to mind is a black candy in the shape of a twisted rope and a flavor that many people cannot stand. However, licorice candy is actually derived from the licorice plant, which has amazing skin benefits. First, glabridin, a compound found in licorice, has been studied to inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme that triggers the production of melanin. When excess melanin is produced, your skin can look patchy, dull, and uneven, and it might start to develop hyperpigmentation or dark spots. Second, licorice is highly anti-inflammatory. Not only does licorice contain antioxidants and flavonoids, but it has also been studied to protect the skin against UV radiation because of a phenol called licochalcone A. By defending your skin against free radicals and UV radiation, your skin will be healthier and may start to look more glowing and youthful. Third, licorice can be used to diminish acne and blemishes. Licorice is antibacterial and it is thought to curb excess oiliness of skin. Licorice is not everybody’s favorite candy(I hate it), but it might become your next favorite natural skin care ingredient!

Ingredients
⅛ tsp. of licorice powder(you can buy on Amazon)
1 tbsp. of oat flour
Rosewater, as needed
Instructions
Mix the licorice and oat flour(make your own by blending whole oats in a blender) together. Add enough rosewater to the mixture until you get a paste.
Apply and leave the paste on your skin for 12 to 15 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water. Follow with a daily skin care routine based on your skin type. Use once a week.

Nature is amazing. You can do so many DIY facials with herbs, botanicals, fruits, veggies and essential oils. Why spend hundreds of dollars when you can do it yourself and know what you are putting on your skin. This is another favorite of mine. I bought the licorice oil to sub out the powder. I like a oil based mask in the winter. My skin leans on the dry side. Go give yourself the self care you need!
