We’re all interested in making our skin appear fresher, brighter and more youthful. A skin care treatment that can accomplish that in less than five minutes seems almost too good to be true, yet it isn’t. A glycolic acid peel can make skin smoother, reduce brown spots and uneven skin tone caused by sun damage, and generally make the skin's surface look fresher and younger. Using peels on a regular basis will lead to collagen stimulation which improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Glycolic acid is the most effective and researched member of the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) family. AHAs have been widely tested and used for years to treat sun damaged skin and reverse signs of the aging process. They work by removing the very top layers of damaged skin and allowing healthy new skin cells to come to the surface.
The glycolic acid used in OZ Naturals 50% peel is naturally derived from sugar cane. As the smallest AHA molecule, glycolic acid is able to deeply penetrate the skin’s surface to increase cell renewal. OZ Naturals new 50% Glycolic Peel harnesses this power in a very effective and potent formulation.
Most skin types can benefit from a glycolic acid peel. The key is to be conservative and not leave the peel on for longer than your skin can comfortably tolerate. OZ Naturals 50% Glycolic Peel stays on the skin for one to four minutes, depending on skin type and tolerance. Keeping a peel on for longer periods of time does not produce more dramatic results, and can actually cause damage. Far more effective results are obtained by using a well-formulated peel regularly for a safe period of time.
You should take special care of your skin for the first few days after a peel. It is important to keep it well moisturized and avoid any exfoliation or retinol products for several days. It’s not uncommon for skin to be pink, shiny and a little sensitive for up to a week after a peel, so this is not a treatment to be done the day before a big event. Most importantly, daily use of a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is vital while using any glycolic acid peels. Not wearing adequate sunscreen will not only undo the beneficial effects of the peel, but can cause further damage.
While one peel will yield immediate results, it generally takes at least four treatments for long-term benefits to begin to accrue. Generally, a schedule of every two to four weeks is optimal for most skin types. After several months, you can often reduce the frequency to once every month or two to maintain your newfound glow.
Glycolic peels can be a powerful weapon in your anti-aging arsenal. Used wisely, you can expect to see dramatic, long lasting results.
Arepa con Carne Asada (Arepa with Colombian-Style Grilled Beef)
