MY REVIEW:

Let me start off that Glycolic AHA is a very important ingredient that I have been using for over 15 years. It is very important like Retin-A is to my skin. It is what keeps my wrinkles, imperfections like sun damage minimal. Let me tell you about the benefits of this lovely ingredient and how I did the peel.

Glycolic Acid Peels

If you are looking to uncover the smooth and younger skin beneath what you have now, you might be considering a glycolic acid peel. The benefits are immense but it’s important to understand what they are and what they can (and can’t) do for your skin.

What is a peel?

A peel is a product that’s put on your face and, as the name implies, is peeled off. These can be done at home with an over the counter product or dermatologist or aesthetician.
A chemical peel uses some kind of chemical solution (there are a variety of peels you can get) to improve the skin. They smooth skin by removing the outer layers, which hold onto damage and are often rough and dry. Many people can benefit from a peel, but those with pimples or acne, uneven skin coloring and winkles are most likely to seek peels the most. These people will also derive the most benefit.

What is a glycolic acid peel?

Glycolic acid peels are simply a chemical peel that features glycolic acid as the main component.
Glycolic acid is currently a popular treatment for winkles and acne. Part of the alpha hydroxyl family of natural ingredients, glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is a fruit acid. When applied to the skin, it helps to remove the “glue” that holds the older, rougher and dryer skin on the surface. When it removes that top layer of skin, the fresh, new layer is visible. It’s this layer that’s without damage and which looks fresher.
People who have glycolic acid peels are often amazed with the results – they look younger, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles and if they have acne, they often notice their skin is quite a bit less oily and is much clearer.

Side effects

There are few if any side effects to having a glycolic acid peel. Right after the application you might feel some burning, but it often goes away quickly. You might have some redness, but again, this usually goes away fairly quickly. If you have sensitive or very fair skin you are more likely to encounter these discomforts. But for me, I love this peel. I will say this through the whole review!!
Glycolic acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you should wear a good sun block after having a glycolic acid peel. I suggest you use a great hyaluronic acid serum right after and a very moisturizing cream.  Also if you use Retin-A perscription than avoid using it for about a week before doing this and 3-4 days after doing this peel. Avoid using the sun like the plaque. SPF 50 is the best. And doing these treatments ever a few months you will thank me for getting your peel on!

How to give yourself a chemical peel

To give yourself a chemical peel, wash your face with a soap free cleanser and thoroughly dry your skin. Apply some sort of prep solution to remove any remaining surface skin oils and prime your skin for the peel.  Witch hazel or a good clean toner.
After the prep solution dries, liberally apply the peel to your skin using a small brush or Q-tip. Avoid the sensitive areas of your face around your eyes, nostrils, and lip corners. You can also apply petroleum jelly on these areas to prevent any acid from getting into them, as you should do with TCA peels.
If this is your first time using the chemical peel, leave it on for one minute (or longer depending on your spot test results) before neutralizing with a neutralizing solution. Alternatively, you can neutralize the peel by washing with a basic cleanser or splashing with plain water. Follow up with a good moisturizer and sunscreen or stay out of the sun.
The peel will make your skin turn red and sting. The stronger the peel, the more it will burn. This is normal, but if it starts to make your skin frost or sting uncomfortably, neutralize the peel immediately, even if it's before the one minute mark. Now me personally I have been doing treatments on my face with a lot of different types of products that I can hang on a peel. I always start a minute to 3. Depends on the tingle. And this I left on for 2.  Follow what I said above with serum and moisturizer. Your face will be rosy. But I noticed the next day right away how my skin looked and how my makeup never look so good after applying. I love this peel.
I love this peel. Here is a You Tube video you can see how I did it. . See the difference!
