Over the past few days, we’ve covered the Environmental Working Group’s 2012 Dirty Dozen, their annual list of the most pesticide-heavy fruits and vegetables as well as some of the criticisms the list has received. But alongside the Dirty Dozen, the Environmental Working Group also releases the Clean Fifteen, a list of the top 15 most pesticide-free fruits and vegetables. Foods on this list have been tested for pesticide residues and have the lowest levels (reasons for this vary, and could be because of thick skins or the hardiness of the crop). This list can save you lots of money — find out how after the jump.
Since veggies and fruits on the Clean Fifteen list are relatively pesticide-free, you have the green light to buy conventional versions of these foods as opposed to organic, which can be a big money saver.
The list is very similar to lasts year’s — click here to see the 2011 list.
Here’s the 2012 Clean Fifteen list from the EWG:
1. Onions
2. Sweet Corn
3.Pineapples
4. Avocado
5. Cabbage
6. Sweet Peas
7. Asparagus
8. Mangoes
9. Eggplant
10. Kiwi
11. Cantaloupe — Domestic
12. Sweet Potatoes
13. Grapefruit
14. Watermelon
15. Mushrooms
