Homemade Skin Care Tips and Recipes

Homemade skin care treatments are much easier to make than most people think. In many cases there is no more work involved than simply slicing (cucumbers for eyes), squashing (strawberry for a face mask) or grinding (oatmeal for a cleansing wash).
I share some really simple recipes on this site and on the blog.

Here are a few other ideas

Coconut Body Butter for Dry Skin

You will need:
  • 2 tablespoons grated beeswax
  • 1/2 cup cocoa butter
  • 2 teaspoons distilled water
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Start by melting beeswax with the water over low heat. For best results use double boiler. (If you don't have a double boiler, just use two pots. Place a smaller one inside the larger one. Fill the larger one with water, but not so much that it will spill into the smaller one when boiling. Melt ingredients in the small pot.) Then add in cocoa butter and mix well. Gradually mix in the remaining oils. When all is mixed and melted, pour ito a glass jar. The mixture will thicken as it cools.

Homemade Makeup Remover

You will need 1 tablespoon of jojoba base oil, 7 tablespoons of pure vegetable shortening and 10 drops of lavender or Roman chamomile essential oil.
In the above described double boiler melt together the jojoba oil and the shortening. Remove from heat and cool it off. Add the essential oil and whisk until the mixture begins to thicken. Pour into glass jars, cover and store.
